Not really surprised at the eating of roasted acorns, although this is the 1st I've seen this account. Reason I'm not surprised is because I've seen where Indians would put aside acorns for winter food, After all, they are a type of nut.
Another thought here. I've read many accounts of both soldiers and civilians using roasted acorns for making coffee.
