You believe that the States were a compact of Nations, I do not. Really that was what the war was all about. A lot of people of good will on both sides had this different view of the country. It's not to hard to understand. James Madison said that this government was unique...it was not wholly national or federal (federal with a small f, meaning a compact or league). I always try to post with reason and facts. Though I don't always reference material. Books aren't always handy and I go from what I know. Though if asked I will search out a reference I make..
