I just got to thinking. Wonder how many of 'mixed' race were in the army or Navy of the CSA? I know later they were supposed to be listed as Negro if they had one drop of that type blood but that wasn't really taken into consideration by a lot of people here even before the war. Could some have volunteered and 'passed'? There were a lot of people with Native American/Negro ancestry too. I don't know where or if there are any real statistics on them either. During the Seminole Wars there were many escaped slaves who joined the Natives and they had to have had children. If the little parts about the Seminole bands not being all Seminole but other Native tribes as well, we can't be sure there's not other parts of the puzzle left out. I know my Cherokee ancestors were in the Confederate Army and they were not alone. It's enough to make ya go----Hmmmm.
