Re: One More Soldier Comes Home

A burial at sea does seem to be well, final. Don't know how else to put it. I guess like spreading ashes. I suppose most of those seafarers knew it was a possibility and some may have wanted it to be that way. Like those long ago soldiers, it was understood that one may not 'go home' again. When we visit places with cemeteries such as Vicksburg and Andersonville, it can't hurt to stop a moment. It may be a substitute for visiting the graves of the ones we don't know about, but they all deserve a moment. I know for me, the Confederate Burial trenches at Shiloh, on a misty, wet, gloomy November day brought me up short and gave me cause to really pay attention. I honestly do believe our visit wasn't unnoticed. Strange as that sounds. Shiloh's like that.
