Absolutely.

And this is definitely something that certain "historians" do not want the general public to know about or to be well publicized because it would generate a far different view about the war.

In one winter of the war 1200 contrabands died in a single camp in Tennessee...1400 in another.

When you consider all of the camps that popped up in conquered areas of the South the total loss of life must have been staggering.
