Re: Gen. Richard Taylor, All American

I read that a while back and it made me laugh. It occured at Magee's Farm in Chunchula, Alabama.

Another event that occured during this time was Taylor's Train was Citronelle, Alabama. That's were his guard and staff awaited him while he took a hand cart down the track to meet with Canby. The train was under a flag of truce in case Union forces should come upon them. They did. A Union cavalry force, which had circled around from Mobile and came upon the railroad north of Citronelle, had orders to capture the town and a suspected Confederate garrison there, (there wasn't one). So they captured Taylor's Train instead, and notified the Union forces by telegraph of their success. The message response from Canby's staff showed they were NOT pleased, and ordered the train and its occupants immediatly released.
