the focus of the questions and the most desirable level at which you probably wish
to maintain the focus of inquiries, retrievals and analysis. Further, "events" may be easily
sequenced chronologically which always makes sense, whereas some of the other options
may not be sequenced so easily along a time continuum. Plus events should concern decisions
made by players and it is that sequence of decisions which brought about the entire
Ft. Sumter happening.
The number of indexed cross references from events to other categories should be limited to
that number that you consider useful within the bounds of reducing complexity as concerns
your work to create this whole thing, your work to maintain the archival data and the ease by
which others may use your archived data. In short, I would recommend a minimal number of
category cross references, maybe only one, if that, in order to maintain simplicity, ease of use,
ease of maintenance, etc.
That does bring up the related issue of what do you do with user data that relates to no established
event, or multiple events, etc. Seems like a judgement call must be made in that case.
