Re: Abe Lincoln & Jeff Davis Inauguration Addresse

I think we have reached a point where teacher's politics and NEA/Federal

influence have become so intertwined that teachers, right and left,

will put their personal spin on whatever curriculum is handed them to teach

regardless of what words are chosen by the Texas State Board of Education

to appear in future textbooks. The only response to this, other than the

dismantlement of the public education system and a move to vouchers, as you

have suggested, Jim, is for teachers to teach kids HOW TO THINK instead of

WHAT TO THINK. I found this notion in one of the comments on a Texas

curriculum Blog this morning and thought it so pertinent as to warrant its

posting here.

Take the present day Civil War context in which a good bit of the Texas

debate is focused - let me ask all of you, what would the teacher's notes include

in a one credit course focused on teaching kids HOW TO THINK?

The present debate in Texas has given me some ideas, but I would like to hear

what all of you think should be included in a HOW TO THINK course outline?
