Re: Abe Lincoln & Jeff Davis Inauguration Addresse

This country has gone so far down the slippery slope of PCness that I'd find it funny if it wasn't something most of us consider very serious. It's so hypocritical to teach "Freedom of Speech' and the rest of the first papers and in the next breath omit something because they're scared to use their own "Free Speech" right.
There's a pattern to all of this. The company that publishes our textbooks also puts out the music books used by the music teachers. The way the CIM system is set up, the lessons almost always go together. An example, if the history text lesson is on Black History month (and that seems to last an entire school year too) the music lessons are songs from the Civil Rights era such as, yep, We Shall Overcome and a lot of spirituals. I love many of the old spirituals. We sang them as we grew up. They are part of the musical fabric that makes up this nation. That lesson is not what I object to but you can bet if I were to complain I would be considred racist because I object to anything to do with Black. That is how it goes.
In our county, the textbooks are changed every 6 years. Each change brings more into the 'melting pot". Now there are sections on the Latino groups. From a simple story for the students to use to break down the parts of speech (noun, verb, etc) and then the music lesson has Latino based songs and lessons on their history. I won't go into the Middle Eastern lessons. My blood pressure rises when I see them and it also goes through the roof when I read the other ethnic material. The ONLY history that is NOT covered and musical pieces to go with it is Southern History. I am not kidding. I subbed in a Music class today and spent a lot of time going through their textbooks. I felt sick. Heart sick. One entire section of the country has been ignored just to please a few who threaten lawsuits and racism. The only songs with a Southern flair are Southern Nights (the Glenn Campbell song) or John Denver's Country Roads.
I have no objection at all to learning of other cultures but when it is so very one sided and one of them is constant, it isn't a good thing at all. Either teach all or none. That's my opinion on it and the teacher I subbed for today thinks like I do but he wants to work a few more years before retiring so he can't go against the system.
Parents HAVE to teach their children the history of their ancestors if they are from the South. The worst of it is the young parents today are products of the PC education system too. They don't know what to teach. They never learned any of it.
