William Stewart Simkins

Earlier this week, David posted an "Opinions" commentary about the new controversy over a long dead benefactor of the University of Texas, William Stewart Simkins. "Simkins engaged in illegal, terrorist behavior during Reconstruction (which was not illegal or terrorist) and doesn't merit having a building carrying his name". These eggheads would be livid if someone protested the honoring of Dr. Martin Luther King just because he was a known philander (and I would agree with them), but they relish the opportunity to kick dead Confederate heroes to the curb at every opportunity...never taking their lives and times into context or giving them credit for wonderful accomplishments.

Below is the full article published in the leftwing Austin American-Statesman. And below that is an unbiased bio-sketch of Col. Simkins from the non-political Handbook of Texas.
