In my original comment, the second post in this thread, I made this statement and I stand by it. Did this soldier deserve a medal over many others who haven't gotten one? Probably not. But, this ladies efforts to preserve this one man's story are commendable in my eyes.

Far better than than forgetting all is the remembering of one.

I guess my opinion may be skewed by the idea and awarding practices of the Confederate Medal of Honor. I have no idea what my great-grandfather Richard Chaddick did at Murfreesboro/Stones River. I do know he was wounded doing it and that the men of Company C, 7th Mississippi infantry, Chalmers' High Pressure Brigade thought enough of his actions to select him for the honor. And it was an honor. They were veterans of Shiloh. And, to quote Forrest Gump... "that's all I have to say about that".
