That same age group in my Gulf Coast family sounded more like New Orleans urban. A sort of Northern sounding accent. My Baldwin County, Ala. grandfather said Bat-tree for Battery, and spoke in a faster rhythm than those further inland. I still love the women's sing-song accent found in most of the area, especially further inland.
