That is just what you need to do. It's really amazing what information is out there but people don't know that anyone is interested in knowing it.
A few weeks ago at the jimbobs, scratch that, a family line reunion, I knew one person there and that was because we'd spoken over the phone for 2 years. He didn't have a whole lot of info when he got bit by the genebug but what he turned up in such a short time was eye opening. He made a chart, one of those science fair poster board thingys, and put the names decending from our GGGrand (in the 32nd Alabama Jim) and then he proceeded to bring us up when he pointed to each child as decendents of that person. He also knew the ancestors nickname. They all had one. One Arm Jim, Snowball, Crazy Charlie, Slick--well, you get the picture. Yes, they's mine.
Some of the older ones, just plain were floored. They had no idea there were so many and most of us live within 5 miles of each other. He asked everyone if they would write something about their family and if they knew anything, their grandparents for the 'next' reunion. Guess he's a comin back down from Tennessee to do it all over again. This is how we get information or ask questions. I took a notebook and everyone brought photo's and someone had a copier and I was able to get a photo of my GGGrandmother, Dicey Shelby Helton. That was special. I was also able to let them have a copy of my GGrandfathe's picture. They had never seen one of him. He was the eldest and they said he "Married Up". :)

Also, check with librarys and see if the have The Heritage Books. We've done 2 on Escambia County and I did articles on all of my lines plus some other stuff. At least some day, some one may read them and find the missing link we all run in to.
