You're right. It didn't play out as many hoped it would. It boggles my mind how long and how hard so many men marched, fought and then marched again until they were told it was time to go home. The women were incredible. Not having the tools we have today, they did some very difficult things to feed their children and elders. Living with hostile neighbors must have been more than difficult. Sometimes I wonder just what they were thinking then I look at things today and I think I understand they at least wanted to do what they felt was right for them, not someone else. That's all it boiled down to.
