Whether the expansion of rights I enumerated in my post are good or bad developments is another argument, but it puts the lie to the claim that the Federal government is the suppressor of rights. The most egregious limitations on personal rights have traditionally come from State and local government. The Supreme Court has been beating back those assaults on our rights for years.
And as to what you described as a circus of out-of-touch politicians in Washington, bear in mind that those folks are there because a majority of your fellow citizens voted for them.
Frankly, I feel that there hasn't been a competent president since Ronald Reagan. But, it's my duty as a citizen to abide by will of the majority, even if that majority consistently makes choices I disagree with. In this imperfect world, we make do with what we have -- which in our case is a constitutional republic.
