Cherokees in the WBTS---Texas

There is a pretty good program showing again at 5 pm central about Indians in the War for Southern Independence. For just a one hour show, I believe they did a good job of summarizing the Cherokee involvement, including mention of the inter-tribal blood fued. Some of y'all probably know there is a major highway named after Stand Watie, one of my favorite Confederate generals. It is ironic and pleasing that Texans and Cherokees were allies during the War. The fought together and Cherokee families were re-located temporarily (and some permantly) in East Texas for safety. Anyone who is familiar with the hostilities between Texans and Cherokees from the days of the Texas Revolution to the war in 1839 will understand what I mean by irony.

Side note: I met a Cherokee-Black descendant in Rusk County about a month ago. She has very prominent Cherokee facial features and coal black skin. She told me some intriguing stories about her grandfather, a full blood Cherokee medicine man.
