Yes the attempt was worth it, the simple act of of not meeting a peace delegation was not. There was still a chance by this meeting that the problems could have been resolved. This was Lincoln's choice made by one man.Secession was a right, still legal in 1860, athis choice was made by the majority of people in each seceeding state, which was their right. I still believe that each state has that right, the right to do what is best for the people living in each state. Seems that several other states believe thay also have this right including California, New Jersey and New York, and Arizona just to name a few.
The idea of a strong central government stinks as much today as it did in 1860
