The liberals and progressive students and administrators (the conservators dare not speak out) condemn Colonel Simkins for his bigotry and participation in the KKK while ignoring the countless good deeds, which are legion. He was an esteemed law professor at U.T. for 30 years and donated a large portion of his law library to the school.

What I want to know is, while the University of Texas and other left wing institutions and local governments are renaming buildings, renaming pubilc schools and working to destroy statues of our long dead Confederate heroes, why does Robert Byrd get a pass? What in the hell did he ever do that was good enough to compare with the post War deeds of men like General Sul Ross, General Simon Boliver Buckner, or Major George Washington Littlefield who were never members of the KKK? The progressives are not attacking Colonel Simkins primarily because he (like Robert Byrd) was once a Klan leader, they are working to destroy his legacy because he was an honorable Confederate soldier and held in high esteem by both alumini and staff of the University of Texas as well as ordinary citizens. Once they kill off Simkins, then the Confederate Statues placed long ago at the Littlefield Fountain are doomed. And so is our American culture.
