Hmm, that's interesting. Compensating the owners? Setting them up in Delaware? No, I guess they didn't give his plan much attention because we know it didn't happen. The only time I know of where slave owners were compensated with money were those who leased or rented their slaves to the Federal government to do labor such as build forts. Even then, some of the owners had to ask more than once for their 'check' to show up in the mail. I know one who was not happy with the treatment one of his got while working for the Government. He wrote a letter asking for his slaves care and health be improved.
Of course, if they had agreed to compensate the owners, wonder how far into Georgia Sherman would have bothered to go? Wonder if they'd have bothered to show up for a war?
