Re: Lincoln Position on Compensated Emancipation

Sadly Jim, I do think we may all need to stay on our 'soapbox' in hopes that just one person will listen. Trying to stay OT here but the comparison between issue of slavery and today's illegal problem is so obvious. This one issue alone shows how the 'Party' lines have reversed themselves. Now those in Lincoln's own party are the ones who are trying to used common sense and find a workable solution without upsetting the applecart. Just allowing the illegals to come on in and work without the proper documentation is akin to turning the slaves loose with no plan or place for them to go. Somehow, I don't see that as humane either.
We all have ancestors who have been here for a very long time. Many have ancestors who participated in every conflict since the first landing here in Pensacola :) in 1559(I had to throw that in because it's forgotten most of the time). We have freedom gained in blood that is a gift given to us, entrusted to us, by those who had the courage to believe. We can't let them down by allowing their efforts be wasted or forgotten.
