Thanks. I'd not seen any info in relation to another state. That seems have been a common thing for the Federal government to do. They rented or leased them here to build Ft Pickens, Ft McRee and Ft Barrancas. They took a number of them from here to work on Ft Jefferson. I have a copy of a letter that Stephen R. Mallory wrote to someone about one of his. He was concerned and thought the man wasn't being treated as well as he wished when the slave was in the Keys. There were a number of brickyards here and from what I've gathered quite a few good brickmasons who were slaves and the government kept them busy for a very long time. Considering the Governments take on the use of slaves as a reason for war it sort of sounds like politics as usual. Take the stand that is politically expedient to get the votes.
