Copied from the Missouri CW Message Board

I posted this a few days ago on the Missouri in the CW Message Board after a California poster and a "newbie" compared Missouri Confederate Guerillas (Irregulars) to Viet Cong. I redacted the comparison and felt the below was appropriate.

Be Careful with Your Comparisons

Hello Everyone,

Just as a gentle reminder, remember this is a site for the scholarly discussion of Missouri and Missourians in the Civil War. Please try to be measured in your wording and sympathetic to "the other side" when posting your personal feelings or position about the subject matter here.

DO NOT compare Union or Confederate soldiers to Nazis, Communists, Viet Cong or Chinese Communists in the Korean War. Though there may be some similarities in a tactic or a general's decision or some other point, comparing a Confederate Irregular or an Enrolled Missouri Militia soldier to the Viet Cong or a Nazi is far too inflammatory to accommodate on this site. Just remember, no matter your personal feelings, you are talking about "Americans" and your fellow poster's ancestors. Please respect this fact and limit your non-productive and non-constructive descriptions and comparisons that will provoke an emotional response from others on the message board.

Thanks for your thoughtful consideration and adherence to this request.

Jim Martin
