How can one sit back and say South Carolina was wrong when they exercised their right of secession, which has still never been proven illegal unless you are to completely believe in the White Vs. Texas decision, which I have said many times comes well after the fact. Owner ship of Sumter was a disputed item, the Federal Government had no more right to Sumter than the Confederates. Had the Federal government been looking for a peaceful solution, then all they had to do was to meet the peace delegation. Instead Lincoln and his cabinet chose to mount an armed armada to invade South Carolina. Knowing this armed fleet was on the way South Carolina took action, and defended themselves.
I gave baby Boy a couple of examples of showing him why he would not like not something in the nature of the White vs. Texas decision used against him. At this time he has not answered. I'll do the same for you-- Remember the Cuban Missile crisis? Same thing, the United States didn't want missiles in our backyard, the Confederate Government did not want a hostile force in theirs. When Lincoln sent his armed armada to Charleston they took action. I don't blame them and in good faith you cannot blame them for defending themselves against a hostile threat. You would take the same action to defend yourself and your family.
So now we can lay to rest the idea that the war was fought over the right to own slaves, but rather fought over the right of secession and the ownership of one piece of disputed property, Fort Sumter. Correct????
