I think those of us with Confederate relatives have had to do more research, finding stories not told in the current history books, while our Northern brethren have a less personal emotion, perhaps not feeling so close to their kin; Cump excepted. We have heard tales at our grandfolks knees. They have absorbed the party line, and not internalized the feelings the soldiers and others on both sides felt. Thus it is perhaps easier to excoriate their traditional enemies. Of course it may just be Southern reticence to denigrate anyone.
