Mar 3, 1871 - The Commissioners of Claims, commonly referred to as the Southern Claims Commission, was established by Congress on March 3, 1871, to review the claims of citizens who had property taken by Union forces and make recommendations for payment.
Richard Allbritton (formerly Pike County) and Uriah Gill (formerly Lawrence County) filed claims in Lincoln County for property stolen during Grierson's raid in 1863.
