James. I have Holcombe kin with the name spelled 7 different ways, the ones in the south did not spell too good and the clerks during the war spelled it any way they wanted. Fathers and sons and brothers were spelled different on military records. Some of my kin from Virginia went to Kentucky and Indiana and guess who they fought for. I am trying to research them now. So I too, like so many of us Rebs have kin on both sides. Good to hear from a cuz LOL
