Re: Robert E. Lee
Being a Sailor, I only lived in tents three times. Once, in survival school we had tents improvised from parachutes. Then, on a Seato exercize with the Marines and eight other foreign army units, we lived in tents on Mindoro Island, in the Philippines. They were fancied up, with wooden decking. We even had showers! I bunked with two Australian Army sergeants and a British Sailor, with my motion picture crew. The San Miguel Brewery gave us a five ton truck load of their beer. We sang "Waltzing Matilda" riding around in the truck. LOL The last time was on the beach at Palomares, Spain, for 46 days in 1966, when the Air Force dropped four H-Bombs as a result of a mid air collision with their tanker, losing all hands from both planes. Three weapons landed on Spanish soil, and were quickly recovered. The AF handed out medals and went home. We stayed until the one dropped at sea was located and recovered. During that time I'd catch a ride out to the task force flag ship and get a shower, about every third day. Fun times. Stan
