I have a question for you, totally not Civil War related, but it sounds like you should be able to answer it. When Fort Polk reopened, what kind of tanks were the 49th Armored Division using? M48s or M60s? The first tank I was ever on was out in the field at Fort Polk when I was an 11-year-old kid, and twelve years later I was OIC of all the American tanks (a reinforced platoon) in the Mediterranean. My platoon at that time was M48A3modBs, and I've always wondered if the first tank I ever crawled through was more modern than the ones I commanded a dozen years later.
