Re: Indian Battles during the Civil War

Stan, you've temporarily put me in the role of ol' Paul Harvey. When Margaret Allen reached Calif, she married Elam Brown in 1847, who didn't seem to mind the 11 kids since he had a couple of baseball teams of his own. She had hidden $900 in an 8-day clock on the trip across the plains from St. Joe, but it was her loot that financed Brown's future and he went far. Unfortunately for her, she was a woman, which resulted in her complete dismissal as a co-founder of Lafayette, Calif. She and her husband Elam Brown are buried in the old Alhambra Pioneer Cemetery in Martinez, CA, a stone's throw from famous mountain man Joseph R. Walker and, if I'm not mistaken, John Muir himself--the Mr. Natural of the over-age sandal and granola set.

My own g-gf, Thomas Westley Bradley (1818-1902), married one of Marg's daughters, and as a Peace Democrat, was a staunch supporter of John C. Breckinridge for the 1860 Dem nomination. Of course, Breckinridge was the Confederate general who won the Battle of New Market, along with the brave VMI cadets--for those who were wondering how I would bring this all back around to the purpose of this board!

Circumlocution: coming directly to the point by way of the scenic route. Learn it, love it, live it. :)
