Stan, Did you see the documentary? My recollection is that is the source. I do know the author found that black CS prisoners were routinely shot by guards on sight as they entered POW camps. Seems the yankees considered them to be traitors. No doubt, Southern soldiers considered them traitors also, but if that had been CS policy, you can be sure EVERYONE would have heard about it. I do not believe there is any reference to the shooting of this particular black soldier in the book, but in view all the atrocities at Camp Douglas, it would have been a small matter.
