I only know that Doubleday was thought to have influenced Anderson into making the unauthorized move to Fort Sumter. He left a lot of evidence around that he was a pot-stirrer and in his life after the Civil War he became a member of the Theosophical Society, (Theosophy, mysticism) and later was made president of the American chapter. They published a magazine called "The Lucifer Theosophical Magazine"-designed to bring to light the hidden things of darkness.
