Stirring the Pot

Things were being 'set up' for a long time before Sumter. I'm wondering if the abolishionist didn't just find the right time to push their stuff more than they had been. Seems to me that the combination of Lincoln's election, the States Rights issue and the abolishionist movement were heading for a showdown. I hate to think some may have begun here. It is also clear to me there was some real adding to the fact propoganda going on too.
Walker was not deprived of food and light. That's his story or one who was written for him. If you've ever seen the sketches of the old jail, it wasn't big, it wasn't dark. This was 20 years before Sumter. Lot of time to get the emotional rollarcoaster going.
