Ken, the conversations with the regulars on this board have helped me keep my sanity when there were a few days I thought it was pretty much going away. I have learned much on the subject that drew us here but I've also learned there are still many, many good people in the world when most of the reports we hear ignore them. I've benefitted from the patience of others to some of my pretty oddball questions and I have felt no less important because I did not have much to add to the threads. In sharing not only the 'facts' on the common subject, but in our personal memories of those we may be related to or know of we gain another perspective to an era where the violent side got most of the press.
I don't think we'd be here if there weren't a part of us that wishes we could have a conversation with an ancestor we didn't know because we sure do want to understand the times and the people they were in. That can't be wrong. We learn from the past and we better understand not only the way the world has moved on but also what we may have gained in that curious thing called a 'gene pool'.
Even if with a difference in the church we may practice our faith to the trials and tribulations our ancestors endured, we are a product of our past and I believe there's much to honor in that. We also are some of the few who would pass on the real unedited version of things we learn because we come from people who believed simple honesty was the way life worked and like the news or not, it should be recorded correctly.
While I still do not have the exact answer to the question I first came here to this board to find an answer to, At least I have a real list of multiple choice answers to ask my GGGrand when I do see him someday. Might make it easier for him to answer my question.
