Pam, Sherman's only mistake in the nature of rashness was his attack on Kennesaw Mountain in June 1864. Toward the end game, the surrender terms he gave Joe Johnston at Bentonville were so generous he was chastised and told to renegotiate for less generous terms. My point is that I don't think the outcome would have been that different if he had been in Grant's place before Petersburg and at Appomattox. Remember he had been president of what became LSU and was friendly toward the South, except on the battlefield. Stan
