Shaky Southern Surrender Sealed
The battle of Mobile Bay was over.
But the matter of twoforts near the entrance to the bay was yet to be settled.
Ft Powell was blown up and evacated.
After shelling by the USS Chickasaw, Col. Charles Anderson CSA negotationed
a surrender of Ft Gaines. The stars and stripes flew over Mobile Bay.
