This election was extra ordinary to the extreme; Lincoln did not campaign to win the South. Even more than during the election, after the election he still did not speak or make himself public nor did he make overatures to the nation as a whole. He was supposed to be the President of the United States, not the Republican States. Lincoln ignored half a nation he was supposed to protect and put it into a panic to disunion.
