Re: 150 Years Ago Today...August 16, 1860 (no real

Ok, so those registered at the hotel were ‘inmates’? Hmm, interesting. We just don’t see this type of reporting anymore. The language is more like an editorial. The Republican Party had NO foreign policy? Well, they didn’t seem to need one. They had a foreign country on both the northern border and the Southern border. Just the one on the South wasn’t really recognized as such.

Now it gets right flowery even if it’s describing a drought, flood, tornado, crop failure, railroad speculators not happy and every other pestilence known to man in the West.

Sad, the amputation of a fifth toe got more words than the murders of two women by their husbands.

[“The Young Men's Democratic Convention today is largely attended and much enthsusiasm manifested...This evening Norombega Hall is thronged, and resolutions adopted endorsing the doctrine of non-intervention as contained in the Kansas-Nebraska Act, reaffirmed by the Cincinnati platform, and again by the Charleston Convention; declaring confidence in Douglas and Johnson and E. K. Smart; denouncing the present State administration for its devotion to the anti-slavery cause and its neglect of the interest of the State and its reckless extravagance; and also proposing additional encouragement for the militia of the State.” ]

That there little paragraph sort of explains a lot. Seems like the clock was ticking til the next April.
