Re: 150 Years Ago Today... August 19, 1860

This was the Sunday edition, and it is very large. I left out a lot of stories and editorials. The main story was of the visit to New York of a Japanese delegation and their families. The author of the story was completely racist and hateful towards them and especially towards the public at large in the city of New Yorker and the reaction to these "yellow-ugly-mummified" looking people; huge crowds followed them were ever they went, trying to talk, touch and get their autographs. Then the author went on compare American Indians to the Japanese; how much better and prouder they were as a race (the American Indians), bringing up stories about the Creek and Choctaw chiefs, like Pushmataha.

I also left out the wars in Europe and Syria, just too much to cover. Also, the local page of murders, assaults and rapes - in detail - in the city of New Orleans for that week I left out too (actually I find fascinating). Now, the Boston and New York papers have just as much, again, it’s just too much to cover.
