Sometimes I think they were more graphic and seem insensitive in the written news but if we look at the journals and letters from that time we also see the same thing. They used more adjectives than we do because we have film footage. Now we are so used to visuals no one understands 'flowery prose' if they're under the age of 50.

As the small, very small, article David posted the other day where there were 2 women killed by their husbands. Not a lot of attention or outrage given to them. More column space was used for the acrobats. Had they fallen, we'd probably have a description of their brain matter. Bad enough one caught himself on fire. That poor lady in Charleston who did catch on fire didn't need to have the mention of her clothing and hair burning off show up in print. Poor thing, she had two kids and they probably saw it.

It's interesting reporting on the international scene. Seems like the Middle East has always been a contentious place why would anyone think it could be different in our time?

So Spain should become recognized as a big country? I have to laugh at that one. I guess after Drake took care of the Armada, it sunk in the opinion ratings.

Who were the "Snake Indians"? The different reports on the Indian attacks show up on a regular basis. I wonder if anyone wondered why the Indians attacked?

Considering how long it took to get news from overseas and the far West the reports are pretty interesting. Seems there was a lot of international schmoozin going on and maybe that's part of why some of the "Powerhouse" nations wouldn't take a side in our own upcoming mess.
