Well maybe it has something to do with the fact that the United States worked real hard to rebuild a lot of the damaged infrastructure in Germany and Japan. Once the Enola Gay took that flight, it was all peace n harmony. Well, maybe not, but darn close. I mean, there were the world leaders sitting together smokin cigars and signing treaties n pacts for the 'common good'. I'm surprised there wasn't a huge rainbow reported with all of the things turning around because of some signatures. Stalin was a 'good guy'. I guess it all comes down to what another can do for you in the world of treaties.

The US was a bit less active in the rebuilding of the South. Less forgiving. Pretty much left it to the carpetbaggers n crooks. Some may argue and say the Feds did try to help but we all know it was for the Freedman's Bureau. Not for the former Confederate families. It probably took to the turn of the century to get to the nicey nice stage.

Since so many of the leaders in both armies were friends or kin before the war, it may have helped bridge that gap for them all parading down Main Street. I don't know. I'm still a bit puzzled by Germans though. My Granddaddy was in both World Wars and I don't think he'd have had a smile for them.
