Marquette Professor Moral Argument

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, I picked up a copy of Blue & Gray Magazine. I'm not a Civil War magazine subscriber, but I do get individual copies occasionally if I know one of the contributors or there is an article of particular interest to me.

I was thumbing through another Civil War Mag, I think it was Civil War Times or America's Civil War, and came across an article by a Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) professor's argument for the "moral" right and wrong of the Civil War. It was the same old, "you ignorant and evil Southerners" argument, "don't you see, the ends justified the means?"

I get exhausted by these imbalanced articles from either viewpoint, but I'm especially concerned when this poorly or "indoctrinally" researched type of article comes from a "respected educator". As though in this day and time, the credentials of recognized historians means anything.

I could not make myself purchase the magazine, so I'm asking if any of you are familiar with the article I'm talking about and can you provide issue, writer and article title info for me?

Thanks,

Jim Martin
