"Roman Dog Days were late July to late August." Sounds about right. I have just finished reading an article in the current Archaeology magazine outlining the origin of domesticated dogs from the wolf. During different periods dogs were pets, sacrifices to the gods, working dogs, and food. When regarded as food, the ritualistic sacrifice and burial disappears from the recod. Funny how one thing we post leads to further discussions. Stan
