Re: unexploded ordnance
In Response To: unexploded ordnance ()

The KSU campus is very close to Kennesaw Mountain, possibly within range of the guns used in battle there in late June 1864. The ordnance may have been found during construction around the campus. Gen Leonidas Polk was killed by a cannon ball at the time on nearby Pine Mountain. (Not the one near Calloway Gardens.) Interestingly, Forrest had sent his Ft. Pillow report to Polk, whose death delayed its filing. This possibly contributed to the "massacre" stories being exaggerated. Stan
