Intersting fact: Bales of cotton were not uniform in the 1850-1860.

The average weight of the bale of cotton from the U.S. was 423 lbs in 1850 and by 1859 they were 447 lbs. Also, according to where they were pressed, the bales weight varied.

1850-

Mobile...504 lbs.
New Orleans.... 455 lbs.

I didn't realize the the bale was not uniform.
