See, we learn something new every day!! I did not know that. I've read in a few places that after the war, the pickers were paid by the sack they turned in or by the pound. I think I've seen references to the slaves aptitude by the amount of cotton they could pick in a day. The big difference is they didn't get paid for it but is there really any difference between living in a shanty while working a farm and buying food supplies from a local (company owned) store? The migrants after the CW were just as enslaved as the slaves were. They just moved more to follow the crops.
