"Debilitis"...Ive came across this description on the service records of many of the exchanged Arkansas Post prisoners.Many had to stay in Petersburg hospitals several months to recover and of course hundreds never did.

Is interesting that a prisoner would have to be returned to a resource strapped Confederacy to recover from malnutrition and exposure from a country overflowing with resources.

I presume that after 150 years a lawsuit nameing the US Government as conspirator in a willfull mistreatment of its prisoners of war would be difficult to substantiate.However,it is certainly fascinating to contemplate.
