Getting and keeping a job is paramount to paying your own way. My Dad taught us children that if you could earn $5.00 daily that was good, but if you were unable to find a job paying $5.00 then take one for $2.00 and if they were no $2.00 per day jobs available work for $1.00 but the important thing was to work and earn anything we could...something was heads and shoulders above earning nothing. By the way he taught us his measurement of worth in the mid to late 30s. This was true in the time prior to Civil War, just a different measurement of a daily wages.
