["Declared for Breckinridge- Corruption of the Douglas Party.- The Williamsburg Gazette, the oldest paper in Virginia, and heretofore neutral, has come out for Breckinridge and Lane.
“We received a proposal by letter, to the effect, that if we would advocate the claims of Douglas for the Presidency, we should receive besides a large stipulated pay, a bonus of three hundred and fifty extra subscribers.” ]

Some things never change do they? Get enough fighting stirred up between 2 groups and the 3rd just slips on in before anyone blinks.

There are quite a few reports of runaways. I guess it's because we really didn't read the news reports in that time frame that some of us may not have believed it to be that widespread. We always heard of them running North but this report saying they were heading for Mexico is interesting. If they were lucky, they may have been able to steal a boat. I'd think that would require help from others, such as the Abolishionist. To go by land would have been rather tricky and foolhardy wouldn't it? I mean, obtaining food, water, braving the elements not to mention the Indians made that direction look not so inviting.

I'm sorry. Don't care what anyone thinks. That kid with the biting problem deserved what ever it was they did to him.
