We have a whole lot of sports 'stars' who are from here. Someone counted them a few years ago and even we natives were surprised. My kids went to hs with Emmit. He was a year behind our daughters. When he was drafted by the Cowboys the entire county went nuts.
Derrick Brooks didn't go to Escambia but we love him anyway. One of the nicest people on the planet.

When Emmit was on the program and researching his family tree it was really interesting to watch him go through the process when he figured out his line from the slaves. The Genealogist who gave him the info has spoken at one of our conferences and she is the one who traces the DNA for unidentified remains of military men that have been found in Nam and other places. That had to be difficult information to process for Emmit but watching him go into it on air did help a few come to our society meetings and we're working to try to trace their lines. It's as difficult as tracing Native American in the Eastern US.
