Re: The Secession Tradition in America

What a great article!

One question that I struggle with is this: on the one hand there is the fact that this 'republic' was forced on our ancestors at gunpoint and with huge loss of life and property; on the other hand there is the modern urge of national pride. It feels a bit hypocritical to be proud of something that my forefathers were willing to sacrifice all to resist. Does anyone else feel this way?
